This article chronicles the collaborative process and efforts of a team of librarians and archivists at University of Western Ontario to establish Information Literacy Learning Outcomes (ILLOs), including goals and guidelines towards defining a discrete set of skills that every graduate of a four-year undergraduate should possess upon degree completion. Much of the article covers the challenges and rewards of diverse viewpoints in tackling literacy benchmarks for post-secondary graduates, but throughout there are explanations around literacy expectations and how libraries and library professionals can support students and instructors in achieving better performance in reading comprehension and writing skills. This article has great value in its explication of a group approach to establishing common ground in developing a literacy instruction continuum and navigating group dissent and dynamics when working towards a collective goal. This work is an inspirational model for school LLC partnerships.
